John Campion is seeking to reassure the communities in Shrewsbury that as Commissioner he is confident West Mercia Police are aware and responding to the recent spate of crimes and anti-social behaviour in Shrewsbury Town centre, including in The Quarry.
PCC John Campion said: “I have been contacted by a number of concerned residents about issues in the Town. Whilst Shrewsbury is a low crime town, there has been a spike in anti-social behaviour, business crime and an increase in concerned residents in parts of the Town– I am clear that crime can never just be accepted as inevitable. I am clear as Commissioner that West Mercia Police have to be proactive, visible and accessible in tackling these issues in the Town. I have asked the Chief Constable to reassure me that the Police have the right resources and are dealing with the issues including increased visible patrols.”
He added “As we move into the next phase of the easing of lockdown restrictions it is vital that the businesses in Shrewsbury get the support they need to ensure they can reopen with visitors and residents feeling safe. As Commissioner I have ensured that West Mercia Police have the resources they need and I am holding them to account to ensure they are appropriately and proportionately tackling the concerns of the local community.”
