Domestic abuse in all its forms is at significant levels in our community, with 1 in 4 crimes feature it.
The Government is steering a new Domestic Abuse bill through parliament at the moment, and its great to hear some further developments to be included in the bill - namely:
- New offence of non-fatal strangulation to be introduced
- Controlling or coercive behaviour offence extended to include abuse where perpetrators and victims no longer live together
- ‘Revenge porn’ offence widened to cover threats to share intimate images
Locally in West Mercia I have relentlessly focused on the prevention of DA, the support of victims and survivors, and the bringing to justice of those perpetrating this awful crime.
The DA bill is a significant milestone on our journey to eradicate Domestic Abuse in all its forms from our society.
